Ad-free version available?
With the latest version the tipps&tricks banner was added which also includes ads. I understand that this is a way of financing the development etc. but for business usage, this is not the best way.
Is it possible to get an ad-free version of wireshark in exchange for a donation or a subscription? We would like to continue using this software and also want to support wireshark in funding, but the ad in the software is not the preferred way to do this. As i think that wireshark is espacially heavy used in business environments, i think a paid ad-free version is the better way to go.
Are there any options to do this? Is it maybe be planned to do this?
Kindly regard, SL
Hackers favorite way into a machine is by sending a packet that crashes wireshark and then jmps from there to execute code. Sure hope these advertisements are static from the harddrive, not confusing the situation by going out to the internet.
Wireshark is GPLed, so it's not as if others couldn't create a non-paid ad-free version.
From Jaap's comment, it appears that an AdNix option is under development.
